During the early 20th century many companies offered trips up Mt. Wellington by horse-drawn conveyances. These companies included Garnet Self’s, Austin’s Brakes, and Webster, Rometch and Duncan. There were normally two to six horses drawing a cart holding up to around 20 people. The horses frequently looked to be somewhat the worse for wear.
